Become a Mentor

Calling professionals and teachers in Science, Technology, Engineering, digital Arts and design, or Mathematics: we need your help supporting inquisitive students at the BC/Yukon Virtual Science Fair.

BCVSF Mentor Expectations

June 1–12: Review assigned project submissions and support material.
June 5–7: Attend a mandatory Mentor's Briefing session (~1 hour).
June 8–12: Conduct minimum 15-minute project interviews via video or tele-conference.
By June 12: Provide written feedback to the BCVSF via provided forms.

Project interviews can only begin after the student's parent/legal guardian or teacher is also present on the call.

Expected Time Commitment

20 to 30 minutes per assigned project plus 1 hour for the Mentor's Briefing — total of ~2.5 to 3 hours.

After the submission deadline, we will confirm your assigned project(s) and provide portal access to review submissions.

What is Mentorship?

Science fair mentorship is communication between an advisor and a student. Mentors may suggest useful directions, but cannot come up with the project idea or do the project themselves.

The BCVSF is not a formal mentorship program, but students may ask mentors for follow-up contact regarding their field of work.
